Bacon Lamps & Chronic Conference Attendees

ACTION
Let’s cut to the chase. My HRevolution follow-up post is intended to take action rather than reflect on an awesome unconference (still calling it that). This might not be the kind of action you expect from a “vendor”. Welcome to the new world order. I had some basic goals set for myself as my purpose for attending. First and foremost would be to galvanize relationships made online and give away bacon love (yes, I gave away that lamp). Second, gauge how I will help this online HR community and third to see how I can take action once the kumbaya was over. I was not there standing in an expo hall with my booth (Thank God!). This would be a paradigm shift that involves participation and give-back, not a sales pitch.

One galvanizing connection was getting to meet Dave Ryan @DavetheHRCzar . One of my many Rock Star moments at HRevolution. I have been following Dave for about 2 years on twitter. Dave, to me, represents my cross-over trench HR I deal with in my own manufacturing business and a great resource for implementing social media outreach for my SHRM chapter. There are many of you that fall into this cross-over category – and you know who you are. I am stalking you now; not in a creepy way.

Dave mentioned he was involved with Project Social blog mentoring and wanted me to come into his share group with Laura Schroeder @WorkingGal a fellow Women of HR writer and all around amazing blogger. I have been involved with Project Social for about 6 months. But, not as a blogger – I have been helping Ben and Victorio (another Rock Star moment meeting Victorio for the first time) with a logo and thinking about how to visually expand the project presence online. Look for more on that later. But, to be invited into the PS circle actually blogging… now that is action and inspiration.

CONNECTION
It took a conference for us to connect and reach out in real collaboration. Wondering why we had not connected in person before now we begged the question: “In the HR online social circles how many chronic conference attendees are there?”
Obviously it was not the three of us. Dave said that at the various events he attended he would “often encounter a number of people who seem to be in attendance at virtually every event.”

I can say I only witness this roving party watching the tweet stream. There are some real air miles being clocked and some cocktails being consumed. Hey, HR conference groupies, is there a plan that drives your attendance? Is it a marketing brand strategy, sales strategy, learning strategy? Is there a min-HRevolution happening on the HR conference circuit that keeps the content fed for all those watching virtually? It is certainly creating buzz.

I can only say thanks devoted HR conference whores travelers. You put on a great show. I’m reading, watching and loving the online content it creates for you and for me! I know we are on course to revolutionize Human Resources. Look for more action from me in the months to come. HRevolution – action is your purpose!

Thanks again to Ben Eubanks, Trish McFarlane, Crystal Peterson and Steve Boese for a great event. Our sponsors rocked! And congratulations to Bill Calette and @ContentedCows for the bacon basket win. Contented Cows gave away the book “Rebooting Leadership.” Hope you get a chance to read it.
