I am departing shortly to attend my first local SHRM chapter meeting. I have been a National SHRM member and really questioned what I was getting out of my membership as well as what I could offer the national platform. So I ducked my national membership and went local.
Thanks to an encouraging conversation yesterday with online colleague John Jorgensen SHRM/HR activist extraodinare, HR educator and Conference Director at Illinois State Council of SHRM, I think I found direction. What do I offer my local chapter? I think it is evangelizing social media in HR.
I am hopeful you have just arrived at my blog after a great conversation Tuesday night at the new membership meeting.
Really, this is not about what I write. Finding me here is a door into an online HR world where the industry takes a candid look at Human Resources. All walks of HR life offer insight, illumination, thought leadership, resources and national connections. I invite you to surf the net from my blog roll to the right. You will find HR generalists, recruiters, lawyers, accountants and educators to name a few. And even better list is here http://thecynicalgirl.com/ultimate-hrcareer-blog-list-for-2011-v2-0/ recently posted by HR well-known blogger and speaker Laurie Ruettimann (Hope to be on this list soon. HINT)
I can guarantee a fun ride read. If I can answer any questions about social media, connect you better with the real movers and shakers online or help you in any way, please feel free to contact me. You know who you are. More on my meeting experience in upcoming posts. Wonder if MTSHRM has a BBQ committee?

Great first impression. Lots of energy. Dynamic crowd of about 60 people. Younger crowd than I expected. That was good. Enjoyed the meeting and putting names to faces. It was a nice presentation of the organizations structure. Good info for beginners like me. Though all the info they presented was on the website.
My first social media question would be if MTSHRM has a trademark on the anacronym? They need to tweet under @mtshrm not @mtshrmorg If there is a trademark then we can take the case to twitter who will turn off the account @mtshrm. That account has never even tweeted once. I think we should try to get it and then ramp down the current account that has under 200 followers and only following 20 back! Time to make the switch is now! Own it!
Anyone have any experience getting the tweet name they want when someone else has it?
