This is the time of year most hogs are traditionally marketed. Hence October is officially recognized as National Pork Month. In 2010 pork producers are focusing on educating the public about where their pork comes from. The message promotes animal well-being and highlights why pork is a safe and wholesome food. An opportunity to raise up and spread a message to feel good about product choices we make seems to be the American way.
How many of you promote your product within your companies or organizations? Take the time to lift up good things. Take the time to celebrate the product you sell or programs you produce. I’m not talking about marketing to your customer. I’m talking about celebrating it within your corporate culture with your fellow employees. Provide an opportunity to foster pride, educate and ask for feedback on how to improve things or make things even better than they are. No, not some lame internal review. I’m talking about an internal propaganda party really. But, more than that, you are providing an opportunity to believe that what you do makes a difference or provides value. And if you feel it does not, be able to discuss why, but don’t be a ‘Debbie Downer’ about it. Be constructive. Besides a propaganda party is only successful when you have something “real” to celebrate. Don’t fake it.
Lift up the product you make. Every company should have “Porktober!” Party and talk amongst yourselves. Beer and BBQ can be a good conversation starter. And you may find your team stronger as a result.
